Why I chose UW Immunology

UW Immunology is a world-renowned center with a broad focus on different areas of immunological research, including antiviral, cellular and Type 2 immunity. The department is diverse yet collaborative and continues to flourish as new members from different research areas join. There is a range of expertise and equipment to facilitate cutting edge research at all levels – student to faculty.

Activities and Interests

Seattle is a great place to get the best of all worlds. Great culture, sports and cuisine options of a city, but with amazing landscapes on the doorstep including mountains, lakes, oceans and state parks. I enjoy taking advantage of this setting to hike, camp and kayak. It never gets cold in Seattle – and the summers are very sunny!

Advice from me

I would advise exploring all the different flavors of research that are ongoing in UW Immunology. I would also take advantage of the great resources available to the department for doing different techniques, and take opportunities to socialize and collaborate with peers, faculty and the wider UW community.

More about me

I am a British immunologist with a long-held passion for Type 2 immunity, and the debilitating conditions associated with it – including allergy and neglected tropical diseases caused by helminths. My research focus is in understanding the contribution of rare innate immune cells to Type 2 immunity and the different signals that influence their activation and function. Contact me if you share a passion for Type 2 immunology or innate immune cells – or if you would like to hear how it’s actually much rainier in the UK than it is in Seattle!
