Why I chose UW Immunology

I chose to pursue my graduate degree at UW Immunology given its outstanding contributions to immunological research and dedication to advancing the careers of trainees. Also while interviewing I immediately noticed the closeness and connections within the student body, which ultimately helps contribute to a good work-life balance.

Activities and Interests

Outside of lab I volunteer as a mentor at Minds Matter Seattle to help high school students prepare for college. I’m also an avid reader, plant enthusiast and make embroidery hoops.

Advice from me

My advice to a trainee that is thinking of joining UW Immunology is to consider the type of academic environment and community they want. UW Immunology is a relatively small department and at the forefront of basic and translational immunological research, and thus offers a close knit, high-quality scientific community. This also creates a graduate student body is very close, collegial and supportive! Finally, while Seattle/Washington is known for the great outdoors, there are also a ton of non-nature activities to do. Seattle is filled with museums, awesome restaurants/bars, concerts/shows, downtown area, parks, and etc.
